Mixed reality (MR) applications are built using the same tools and techniques employed in game development. From simple leaderboards and gamer accounts, to full multiplayer or even massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), the cloud simplifies the creation of connected games without any up-front investments. The cloud democratizes game development, putting infrastructures normally reserved for AAA studios into the hands of indie game devs. MR applications can also benefit from cloud back-ends for shared experiences between holographic and immersive users, remote avatars, loading dynamic assets and positional updates. In this session you'll learn how to design and create Windows MR apps and games in Unity with a cloud back-end including Web APIs, cloud storage, state management, cognitive services and more. We'll also look at innovative open source projects designed to accelerate the integration of cloud services in Unity and other MR or game development projects.

You will learn:

  • The principles of cloud development and learn about common cloud gaming services
  • How to integrate common cloud services in Unity projects for storage, shared experiences and multiplayer
  • About key open source projects that facilitate the integration of cloud services in 3-D apps and games
